Very nice mill. Who makes it. My Williams book (stone mill, wooden frame) has: 12 inch stones, 4-5 hp, 1000rpm 16 inch stones, 6-8hp, 800 rpm 20 inch stones, 8-10 hp, 700 rpm those are production numbers, i don't think it would make any difference to run slower, unless the mill would have problems throwing out the flour at slower speeds.
Identify the casting pattern of the ball. Authentic Civil War cannonballs will have three distinct mold markers. The most obvious will be a faint ring around the ball, the mold seam, where the two hemispheres of the casting mold met. The second mold mark will be a circular mark somewhere along the seam. This mark is from the filler hole spruce.

Stone a convenient sized piece of file until you see flats on top of the teeth. Do both sides. I like a piece a bit over an inch wide, and maybe 3 long. Now you have a "burr file". It won't cut any flat surface, but it knocks down stuff that sticks up. It will do a good job on your mill table. I use one between scraping cycles to knock off the ...
ELECTRIC MOTOR: A motor of at least ¼ H.P. is needed to operate the manual mills satisfactorily 1/3 or ½ horsepower motors work well too. We recommend that a motor of 1440 R.P.M. or less be used. When using a 1440 R.P.M. motor you will need a 12" inch pulley on the mill drive shaft and a 1¼" pulley on the motor drive shaft.

Put a generous film of oil on the table or chuck and rub it. You will feel the burr immediately. When it is gone use the fine side to be sure. Wipe off the oils and bright spots will reveal where the high spots were. The oil film is important, The stone "floats" on the oil and cuts when it hits a high spot.
These include the Meadows stone mills and the Vessot grinders sold in Canada. Meadows stone mill units started at 12" and went through 30", the Vessot iron plate grinders started at 6.5" and went up through an incredible 15" diameter plate version. I have heard other people reference a No. 4, but don't know where that number was coming from.
For drilling natural stone (rip rap) should I use a diamond tipped drill bit or a Carbide drill bit. The hole would be done with a 1/8- inch bit and 3/4 -inch deep into the rock. The stone would be in water to cool the bit while drilled. Rip Rap stone is rough stuff but softer than river rock. That is the only way I can explain what it is like.

How do I know what drill bit to use in my anchor? To get the right-size hole, measure the shank of the drill bit against the front of the anchor — its diameter should be the same size or 1/16 inch more than that to make the opening for the screw. If the diameter of the anchor is displayed on the packaging, drill the hole with a bit of the same diameter. ...
